Upcoming Cub Scout Events

Greetings Pack 9 families and friends, a big hand 🖐 goes out to Jacelyn Hemmelgarn for organizing the Camporee at Memorial Stadium! Thank you!

I wanted to send a note reminding everyone about the Prairielands Council and Pack 9 upcoming events:

  • Sunday October 29-Smilin Pumpkin Outdoor Festival
  • Saturday November 4-America Recycles Service Project
  • Sunday November 5-Raingutter Regatta
  • Saturday November 11-Camp Drake Fall Service Day
  • Sunday December 3-Arrrow of Light and Crossover Ceremony
Please go to www.hcpack9.org and click on the calendar for additional details.

Also, attached is the Raingutter Regatta informational flyer and rules and regulations. Note: if you don't have a regatta kit yet please contact your den leader.

Finally, although medals, ribbons and prizes are given to the Raingutter Regatta participants, please remember that SPORTSMANSHIP and FUN are the main objectives for the Scouts and all to enjoy. The most important values in this competition are parent/son participation, good sportsmanship and learning how to follow rules.
Two things the Raingutter Regatta requires each participant to learn are 1) the craft skills necessary to build a boat and 2) the rules that must be followed.
Even more important, though, is how we act and behave while participating in the Raingutter Regatta or any other group activity. This is called sportsmanship.

The first thing to remember about sportsmanship is that everyone's skills are a little different. Your craft skills may be just developing, while someone else may be more experienced. Parents have different skill levels, too.
Whether or not you feel that you have good boat-building or racing skills, remind your scout that they and their friends are individuals first and racers second. This idea is often called having respect for others.

Yours in scouting,
John
